edit* misspelled the title, such shame*

Here is simply an idea ive just had and haven't really thought through, im just thinking out loud.

during the gap between seasons, along with the cup night or what ever is being planned,
we have some form of competition (in an evening or over a weekend) containing brand new teams made up of players who have never played in the ensl before, led and trained by current members of the community who can only partake on the night by playing commander.

The point of this? if it works, and someone wants to take me on, we could have at least 2 new teams next season.

So meet me in 7/8 weeks in the playground and i bet my rookies will beat yours.

It's kind of excellent idea. I'm not so sure how to deal with that concretely though. I've never thought about a such possibility but it could worth a shot in my opinion. The hardest thing would be to find out people willing to do it.

Reminds a bit of this

I think the harder part is to find 5-7 players per person. Hard in the sense of it takes a lot of effort, but definitely possible.

We would need to fire advertisements for this rookie-tourney on each channel available: ensl.org (obviously), NS2-twitter, UWE-Forums, Server-messages, dedicated servers, shoutcasters talking about it, reddit, you name it.

There are a couple of never-played-in-ensl in TAW, who would be interested in such a thing, so this could kick of the first team with relative ease.

Anyways, I played around with the idea of making a rookie-tourney happen since October. But Skyice just gave it a nice spin, with veterans putting the new teams into shape beforehand. I like that. Not sure about the Coaches allowed in the chair, though. I think it would be even nicer to see a complete new team rising, having their own commander as well. So they are ready to propell into the up-following season without finding a com first.

So, patroning: yes! But ensl-veterans in the chair... not sure about that. If needed ok. But, if not needed, I'd prefer a full-rookie team.

Are we talking about "real" rookies here or average pub players who are interested in comp play?
Im sure you mean the 2nd type of players and these are no rookies anymore.

So "Rookie-tournament" didnt fit in this case.

Only my opinion.

The second type. Call it Newcomer-Tourney, then.

Yeah "The freshman's Natural Selection Tournament"... what ever.
We basically have a new team already through new members in TAW who joined in the past few weeks.

If we get a little help from the ENSL and CDT with pushing this in to the public domain, help from players to recruit and advertise in game, and any of the great casters in the community to cast on twitch, this could create a real incentive to bring people into the scene - catalyzed by the feel the buzz of partaking in a casted tournament with people watching you.

Signing up for casting right here. I casted one of the matches from some LAN where people played the game for the first time, so much fun. I think GISP was involved in it, can't remember the details.

EDIT: name, ofc...
