Unfortunately we had to resign from the cup. Due to <various reasons>, it turns out we only have five players who can play this week, which obviously means we can't play any games. We wouldn't have signed up if we knew this would happen, but yeah, shit happens. Hopefully we'll have a reliable team by the time season 3 starts.
As for this match itself, snails were obviously a huge favorite to win. We haven't been able to practice much, except for when we've been able to find mercs and are quite bad at the moment.
sooo... basicly fear :p playing with a merc isnt that big a deal - teams do it all the time. its a shame cos this cup isnt really about who wins etc, but rather testing the balance changes - we were told to look at the games as PCW's rather than serious matches... lets also not forget considering you nuked a seemingly stable, successful and popular team in order to participate in this cup its a bit weak to drop out just because you need a merc imo... shame, was looking forward to this one :)
I don't know who these "teams" you're talking about are, I've never seen a div 1 team use mercs in an ns2 official. We joined the tournament because we wanted to play together, improve as a team and have fun. Instead it turned out to be a hassle, no practice and no fun, because we weren't able to practice enough or even play the matches we scheduled. Using mercs in officials is out of the question, but we couldn't even find mercs for pcws, so there's that.
Nobody "nuked" Godar. We teamed up to try to create something better, instead of a dead Archaea and a Godar that underperforms in every important match. If we'll succeed or not is a different question entirely; nothing ventured, nothing gained.
This is also the weakest, most boring drama pretty much ever. Nobody even has any reason to be angry or disappointed with what happened -- there was no malicious intent from anyone, and if someone believes that a team should stay together forever just because they're a team, or no man left behind or some other bullshit, then it's time for them to wake up to the real world. I had the exact same thing happen to me in 2004 (the team I was playing for reformed, with me being one of the players left out). Did I start crying on social media, or run around complaining about backstabbing, or complain on the forums about imbalanced teams? No, I joined a new team, practiced and improved with them, and have done pretty well for myself ever since.
